What are Conference Tables?

Conference room tables are an essential piece of furniture in any office, large or small. Shopping for a new conference tables is not as simple as everyone thinks. They should be chosen wisely to make sure that it suits your office, budget and needs.

Overall there are three main purposes for having a conference table:

  1. Employee / staff meetings: The main objective is functionality. You need to make sure your conference table is large enough to accommodate your employees and room for them to take notes and use their electronic devices comfortably.
  2. Meet with clients: The purpose of this conference table is to make a statement that they can trust you with their business. Therefore conference tables for this purpose need to be impressive. If you are doing presentations, power modules should be specified with HDMI, power, data, and USB ports.
  3. Boardroom meetings: This is where the great minds of the company come together to formulate strategies, review the performance of their products and services, and make important decisions. Obviously this type of table has to be impressive as well as have the technology to successfully make the meeting productive.

Important factors when picking a conference table?

Size: You do not want to put a small conference table in a big meeting room and then not having enough room for all attendees. By the same token, you do not want to put a table too big for the room. Always make sure that from the edge of the table to the wall, there is at least 3′ to comfortably walk and pull out the chair. If your meeting room is small, consider a media table instead.

Material: For the most part, the price range will be affected in this order from least to most expensive: Laminate, veneer, glass, quartz/marble, and solid surface.

Laminate: Laminate has come a long way from the early days and it’s great for everyday use. You don’t have to be as careful as with veneer or quartz/marble tops. Desk Makers Malibu Collection is one of our favorite.

Veneer: Exquisite and sophisticated, veneer conference tables are statement pieces for your clients and board members. The Flow table by Nucraft is one of our best sellers for it’s design, veneer choices, and quality.

Glass: Back painted glass and frosted glass tables are great if you are going for a contemporary modern look. Very important, make sure the arms of your conference chairs are not metal since they could potentially chip the glass and cause it to crack.

Marble/Quartz/ Solid Surface: The pinnacle of sophistication that is only reserved for the most successful companies. The main difference between Marble/Quartz and solid surface is that a Corian solid surface is non-porous and has many benefits such as being stain resistant, anti-microbial, and although it is difficult to scratch, it can be repaired more easily.

Do conference tables come in different shapes?

Yes, the most common are round, oval, square, rectangle, racetrack, and boat shaped. Exotic shapes include V shape, radius rectangle, sight line, ellipse and triangle.

What kind of technology can be integrated in a conference table?

Power modules are normally fitted with: power, usb, RJ-45, and HDMI ports. You can also integrate USB-C, bluetooth speakers, phone line, and older types of connections. Each company does their power modules differently but for the most part is not to draw attention to them for a clean look.
